JOINT LUBRICATION
Glucosamine is a major component of the
synovial fluid present in the joint. In addition to being a lubricant
this fluid acts as a shock absorber cushioning the joint during
exercise. Pain and stiffness occurs when the fluid becomes thinned due
to age, hard work or disease.
Glucosamine is a soluble natural
product obtained from crustacean shells. After being consumed it is
absorbed through the wall of the intestine into the body. It is
attracted to the joint cells where it provides the raw material to build
up synovial fluid.
Most bones end in cartilage, a plastic like, material, which lines the
joints and prevents bone grating against bone. if this lining wears out
the joint becomes stiff and creaky.
Chondroitin is
chemically similar to Glucosamine and is a constituent of cartilage. It
is processed from fish or animal cartilage and is attracted to the joint
in a similar fashion to Glucosamine. It then stimulates the chondrocyte
cells to rebuild connective tissue. There appears to be a synergistic
effect when Glucosamine and Chondroitin are fed together.
MSM
(Methylsulphonylmethane) is an
organic form of sulphur which is readily assimilated by the body.
Sulphur is a vital element, often in short supply, which is needed by
the horse to manufacture synovial fluid, cartilage and connective
tissue. It also has vital anti-inflammatory properties.
SWELLING
Wear and tear on the joint working
surfaces leads to grating and friction. The
swelling caused forces the synovial fluid away from where it is needed.
Suplijoint is based
on whole cooked Linseed. Linseed is nature’s richest source of Linolenic
Acid. The digestive system breaks this down to the EPA and DHA Omega-3
fatty acids found in fish oils. These essential fatty acids ease joint
movement and also help maintain a healthy heart and
circulation. Other obvious benefits are a glossy skin and coat.
ANTI-OXIDANTS
Vitamins E and C are
added at recommended levels to boost the immune system by neutralizing
free radicals which destroy body cells. This increases the effectiveness
of all the other active ingredients.
FEEDING GUIDELINES
(Based on 500KG horse)
Feed 50g (3 heaped
measures) for the first 15 days. This provides 10,000mg of Glucosamine
hydrochloride and 4,000mg Chondroitin sulphate. After 15 days and for
continuous maintenance feed one heaped measure per day to provide
3,333mg Glucosamine hydrochloride and 1,333mg of Chondroitin sulphate.
